How Does the Veneers Procedure Work?
Usually, getting veneers takes two appointments. After your dentist confirms that you are a good candidate for the procedure, your teeth will need to be slightly altered to make room for the procedure. Your dentist will remove about .5mm of the enamel on the front-facing surfaces of your teeth. Impressions are taken and then you are provided with temporary veneers until your permanent restorations are ready!
In just a couple of weeks, you are called back into the office where your final veneers will be adhered to your teeth. After just a few final adjustments, you will be sent on your way to reap the benefits of your new and improved smile!
Do Veneers Cause Tooth Sensitivity?
Directly after the procedure, many patients experience mild sensitivity and discomfort as their smile adjusts to the new restorations. This can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. Other patients experience no sensitivity at all. Fortunately, this is all temporary. If you are prone to tooth sensitivity, veneers may actually end up improving the discomfort you’ve been experiencing. Adding a veneer to the front side of your teeth gives it an added layer of protection against outside elements, like the foods and drinks you enjoy. Hot and cold temperatures won’t be able to reach the sensitive areas of your tooth as easily.
You don’t need to worry about tooth sensitivity when getting veneers. Once you get used to them, you shouldn’t feel a difference between them and your teeth without veneers. All that’s left to do is enjoy all of the benefits of your smile and show it off with pride!
